The Abundance Collection

Before my children can sketch their ideas for the perfect Halloween costume, I am planning the concepts and color schemes for that year’s holiday ornament collection. I have created original, hand-painted holiday ornaments for the past three years. These are always fun to make because of their small 'canvas’ size and how a group of them can be thought of as a set. A group of 4 to 6 ornaments will consist of the same colors, but no two will be the same.

This year’s collection is not only rooted in the idea of abundance - but the visual inspiration comes from how minimally expressed modern pottery is painted. The rawness of unfinished pottery absorbs water-based paint quickly allowing for bright ‘splotches’ or watery washes of soft color.

My favorite part? Selecting the colorful velvet ribbons once the ornaments are painted, bedazzled (with little sparkling bits), and little details like pearls or jewels.
